Italian Buffet Dinner & Silent Auction Outcome

Our recent Italian Buffet Dinner and Silent Auction at the Quincy Son’s of Italy was a success. We were able to raise $3000 after expenses. Thanks to all who participated. Special acknowledgment to the individuals who helped me put it together including my wife Tanya Rhen, Tracy Holmes, Melissa Goodwin, Laura Bracco, Melissa and David Rhen.

Introduction & Welcome Note

Hello Visitors to this site. Let me formally introduce myself. My name is David Maynard. I have been dealing with a life changing injury for the last 9 years. Although the exact cause is not clear, the injury is from a herniated disk that was in my upper back area called the thoracic spine.

It is estimated that 1 out of 1,000,000 people have this condition. Doctors who reviewed my case were unable to provide a concrete prediction of recovery.

There is speculation there may be permanent damage from this injury.

Within the last few months I researched alternative treatment options and one of these options was umbilical cord stem cell transplants. Cord blood is said to possess significant regenerative qualities without the controversy associated with embryonic stem cells. China, Korea, and Russia have explored with umbilical cord stem cells in paraplegic patients and have had promising results. Many of these patients who have been unable to move certain limbs due to their injuries have reported increased sensitivity and some movement after having a stem cell transplant.

It is my hope that a trip to China in September of 2008 will give me the opportunity to find a solution for a condition that has plagued me for a period of my adult life. I am also hoping that this process will help provide information to other suffers with little hope, as well as educate the general public about its medical potentials.
