Fundraising Yard Sale

We had our final fundraiser before our trip to China on August 16th. We did a yard sale at the Quincy Knights of Columbus. It was for the most part very successful. Total we grossed $750 and netted $500 (sorry, the M.B.A. in me had to write that).

The biggest concern was the weather, but it held up nicely. The other concern at the beginning of the event was whether or not we had enough items to sell. Luckily people dropped of donations a few hours later.

We had a few serious hard core yard sale enthusiasts. You could tell because the event was slated to start at 8 a.m. and some of them showed up at 7:30 a.m. There was one guy who came three times that just couldn't take "No" for an answer when he would try to bargain for different items. After awhile I think we gave in because the battle with him was too draining.

I did most of the advertising in the Quincy Patriot Ledger and on CraigsList. I put one or two signs up, but found I didn't need to hang too many because the location plus the Ledger exposure seemed to draw people to the site.

All in all the day went very well. Thanks again to those who contributed through donations or time.
